About the role
Reporting to the Manager – Strategic & Social Procurement, the Senior Consultant – Strategic Procurement will play a key role in delivering procurement advisory services to Sedo Group’s clients.
This role will support the design, development and implementation of strategic procurement frameworks, strategies, policies and market-facing documentation. You will work closely with clients to assess procurement processes, interpret government policy requirements, develop practical recommendations, and support the delivery of procurement projects from strategy through to implementation.
The role is primarily consulting-focused, with opportunities to contribute to Sedo Group’s internal procurement capability, business development activities and the continued growth of our strategic and social procurement offering.
This is a hybrid role, with a mix of in-office collaboration and work-from-home arrangements.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead and support procurement advisory engagements for Sedo Group clients.
- Lead complex sourcing processes (RFx, EOI, RFT, RFP, negotiation, evaluation) and design sourcing frameworks and evaluation methodologies
- Conduct procurement assessments, including analysis of processes, data, trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
- Develop procurement strategies, policies, frameworks and implementation plans aligned with client objectives.
- Support requirements definition, market approach planning and the preparation of procurement documentation.
- Review, evaluate and design market-led proposals and procurement approaches for clients.
- Interpret government procurement policies, regulations and guidelines and translate them into practical client recommendations.
- Strong understanding of procurement governance, probity and compliance requirements, with the ability to apply sound judgement and manage risk in complex environments
- Proficient in tendering, contract management and finance systems
- Monitor relevant government announcements, strategies, budgets, procurement plans and policy changes to identify risks and opportunities for clients.
- Prepare reports, business cases, briefing materials, presentations and evidence-based recommendations.
- Facilitate client workshops, stakeholder meetings and capability-building sessions.
- Support change management activities associated with procurement improvement and implementation.
- Provide regular project updates and reporting to clients and Sedo Group leadership.
- Contribute to business development, including scoping engagements, preparing proposals and identifying new opportunities.
- Support Sedo Group’s internal procurement policies, processes and technology where required.
About you
You are a commercially minded procurement professional with strong policy awareness and the ability to turn complex requirements into clear, practical advice.
You are confident working with clients, senior stakeholders and government representatives, and you enjoy solving problems, improving processes and delivering work that has both commercial and social impact.
You will bring:
- Proven experience in procurement, contract management, commercial advisory or consulting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of public sector procurement frameworks, government policy and regulated environments.
- Experience developing procurement strategies, policies, market approach documents, reports or business cases.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify improvement opportunities and develop practical solutions.
- Excellent written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Confident verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including workshop facilitation.
- Experience developing and implementing procurement governance frameworks
- Experience managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and contribute effectively as part of a small, growing team.
- Strong capability using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project Management platforms, email and online collaboration tools.
- Willingness to learn new systems, tools and procurement technologies.
Qualifications and experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in business, finance, commerce, law, public policy, economics, supply chain management or a related discipline.
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in procurement delivery, commercial advisory, consulting or a related field.
- Experience working with, or advising, government, public sector entities or businesses operating in highly regulated environments.
- Knowledge of procurement laws, regulations, policies and processes.
- Experience in project-based work, including planning, delivery, reporting and client management.
Postgraduate qualifications, procurement certifications, experience with procurement software, or experience using data analysis and performance measurement tools will be highly regarded.
