Our client, a conservation seeks a dynamic and highly motivated Senior Liaison Officer to represent them at the local level in the Lunga Luswishi Game Management Area (GMA) located in the Kasempa-Lunga-Luswishi and also in their country office located in Lusaka for a period of 6 months, on a Consultancy basis.
The role is pivotal in addressing pressing conservation challenges, including encroachment, illegal hunting, fishing and mining. The successful candidate will serve as a key liaison with senior officials from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), government representatives and community stakeholders to advance our client's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the brand / make appearances on behalf of senior management in addressing conservation and community issues
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior DNPW and government officials
- Engage with community stakeholders, including traditional leaders, Community Resource Boards (CRB's), and local residents
- Conduct extensive fieldwork to monitor and mitigate illegal activities within the GMA
- Provide clear, accurate, and timely reporting on field conditions and stakeholder engagements
- Collect and analyze data relevant to our Client's conservation priorities
- Facilitate effective communication between our Client's management, government and community partners.
Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Mass Communication, Social Science, Natural Resource Management, Community Development, Sociology or similar role a relevant field
- Additional training in community facilitation is an advantage
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in similar role
- Demonstrated experience working in rural areas with conservation NGOs and government institutions within Zambia
- Confident public speaker, skilled in conducting community meetings and liaising with government officials
- Proven experience working with DNPW and rural communities
- Ability to build trust and long-term relationships with remote communities
- Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills, with the ability to command respect across diverse groups
- Versatility to balance office-based tasks with extensive fieldwork, including camping in remote areas
- Extensive fieldwork experience, including camping and working in areas with limited connectivity
- Knowledge of sustainable development and natural resource management
- Competence in conflict resolution and negotiation
- Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office, GPS, smartphones)
- Valid Zambian driver's license (motorbike license advantageous)
- Language proficiency is Kaonde is preferred
