Join the Employment and Trade Policy team to develop your skills and deliver this important agenda for Queensland.

The Employment and Trade Policy Team drives a strategic approach to policy development across the portfolio areas of employment and workforce related policy including closing the gap in skills and training, migration, international education and trade. The team is also responsible for DTET's portfolio legislation ensuring it remains fit for purpose and briefing on Cabinet submissions. The team coordinates major policy projects and internal and external research and evaluations, including with respect to participation in whole of government policy activities. Current priorities include leading and coordinating the development of a new workforce action plan, implementing plans for Closing the Gap, and key priorities under skilled migration and international education.

As The Senior Policy Officer, You Will

  • Lead or contribute to projects that develop innovative and practical policy options and solutions, with a focus on supporting positive economic outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Conduct research, analyse strategic policy issues and provide strategic advice to the Minister, Director-General and senior officers within the DTET portfolio.
  • Review existing policies and assist in developing and drafting new policy recommendations and proposals through research, policy analysis and data analysis.

  • Apply sound knowledge of the principles and practices that underpin policy development and implementation strategies to meet government priorities and achieve departmental objectives in complex and changing environments.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively under pressure, manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines, both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Share information and consult with others to ensure that you and your colleagues remain informed and up to date on relevant portfolio policy matters.
