The overall objective of UNEP's Industry and Economy Division is to encourage decision makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. The Division promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities. Please review internet address (http://www. unep.org). The position is in Mining Unit of the Industry Innovation Branch, which is part of the Industry and Economy Division at the Paris Duty Station. Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Industry Innovation Branch, the incumbent will coordinate and manage the Mining Unit which aims at working with governments to support them in developing the policy enabling environment to promote responsible mining and circularity in the minerals value chain, provide strategic leadership and encourage sector wide collaboration to accelerate a just transition towards responsible mining and circular minerals value chain, in line with UNEP’s medium-term strategy and in contribution to the UN Task Force on Critical Energy Transition Minerals. Under the Chief' of Branch’s supervision, the Head of the Minning Unit will lead the formulation and implementation of the Branch's substantive work programme under his/her direct responsibility, and will undertake the following tasks:
