Role Summary:

The Senior Reporter is responsible for producing original, high-quality news content across a broad range of topics relevant to The National’s readership. This includes coverage of breaking news, national and regional developments, human-interest features, and in-depth reports. The Senior Reporter is expected to generate exclusive stories, provide insightful analysis, and deliver balanced and engaging journalism across digital and print platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate original and impactful news stories covering UAE, regional, and global developments of interest to The National’s audience.
  • Conduct thorough research, interviews, and field reporting to produce accurate and well-sourced journalism.
  • Write clear, concise, and engaging copy on tight deadlines, ensuring adherence to The National’s editorial standards.
  • Collaborate with editors to refine story ideas, structure, and presentation for maximum reach and engagement.
  • Work with multimedia, video, and social media teams to deliver stories in formats suitable for multiple platforms.
  • Monitor breaking news, official announcements, and trending topics, providing timely and verified updates.
  • Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts and sources across government, business, and key sectors.
  • Contribute to editorial planning meetings and propose forward-looking, original story ideas.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a reporter or correspondent in a reputable newsroom, preferably with regional or international exposure.
  • Excellent writing, reporting, and interviewing skills, with strong command of English.
  • Sound editorial judgment and the ability to identify stories of national and regional importance.
  • Strong understanding of the UAE and Middle East news environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond effectively to breaking news.
  • Familiarity with digital journalism practices, multimedia storytelling, and social media engagement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accuracy, integrity, and editorial quality.
  • 6–8 years of professional experience in reporting or corresponding for a recognized news organization, preferably with regional or international exposure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
