Job Overview
Under direct supervision, the Sex Offender Agent Trainee is expected to understand sex offender conditions, laws, restrictions, and forms related to the program and to monitor enforcement of non‑sex offender supervision. The trainee must be knowledgeable about South Carolina Sex Offender Registry requirements, proximity limitations for where offenders may live, work, and travel, sex offender treatment processes, and the use of digital media.
The role also requires identifying red‑flag behaviors indicative of reoffending and evaluating risk based on the offense cycle and available treatment methods.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 15 semester hours in social or behavioral science courses.
- Or an associate’s degree plus two (2) years of military or certified law‑enforcement experience (including Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience).
- Or a high‑school diploma plus four (4) years of military or certified law‑enforcement experience (including Class 1 or Offender Supervision Specialist experience).
- Applicants must obtain C‑1 law‑enforcement certification from the SC Criminal Justice Academy within one year of employment (12 weeks, including an 8‑week sequestration).
Selection Process
SCDPPPS disciplinary actions are considered during the interview phase. Candidates will undergo the Nelson‑Denny Test (Reading Comprehension & Vocabulary), a physical ability test, background checks, credit check, cybervetting, driving records check, criminal records check, drug screening, a physical exam, and a psychological exam.
