Pay: $19.00/hour

Note: This is a work-from-home position but occasional travel to Etobicoke (Kipling Ave & The Queensway) is required to perform in-person tasks.

Eligibility (as Per Canada Summer Job Requirements)

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations

About The Organization

Established in 2009, The Roberta Bondar Foundation (RBF) fuses environmental science and visual art through photography of the natural world to generate engagement, stimulate creativity and promote action to conserve our intricate life-sustaining ecosystems. Our work is based on four program pillars: i) the Bondar Challenge, ii) Traveling Exhibitions and Learning Experiences, iii) Speaker Series, Workshops and Seminars, and iv) Research and Publications.

Position Description

The Education Coordinator will become an integral part of the RBF team. The primary responsibility of the Education Coordinator will be to implement RBF’s summer programming for youth, and in particular the Summer Camp Bondar Challenge (SCBC) Program. The SCBC program calls on participants to utilize the camera as a gateway to learning about our environment, and generates engagement, stimulates curiosity and creativity, and promotes responsibility and action to conserve our natural world. RBF partners with summer camps to get youth outdoors, challenging them to experience and examine the natural world around them while building healthier lives.

Responsibilities Include

  • Liaison with contacts at camps and partner organizations delivering the SCBC program, regarding program set-up, delivery and follow-up as needed.
  • Logistical support for programs, including packing kits to be mailed to camps.
  • Monitor inventories of program materials and refill, as required.
  • Track program participant applications and maintain spreadsheet.
  • Compile and organize nature photography contest submissions for the Foundation’s team of judges.
  • Prepare contest results for publication on the Foundation’s website, social media and newsletter.
  • Develop and implement communications strategies to reach and engage new camps and communities to increase participation in the program.
  • Assist in distributing surveys and compiling program evaluation data.
  • Identify any needs and gaps in resource materials and information; research, write, and design resource materials to fill these needs as required.
  • Contribute to WINGS, RBF’s e-newsletter, posts on social media channels, and other communication touch points.
  • Research potential sponsors, foundations and government agencies in local communities. Contact potential funders as required to confirm eligibility and deadlines.
  • Provide general administrative support to RBF staff for the Travelling Exhibition and other educational programs required.

Requirements

  • Educational background in a STEAM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics).
  • Experience in summer camp setting or program delivery and/or event planning.
  • Strong written communication skills for drafting emails, reports and digital content.
  • Experience using design software such as Canva, Constant Contact.
  • Familiarity with Mac computer systems an asset.
  • Great interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take on a diverse set of tasks.
  • Comfort with speaking on the phone.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and responsibilities but comfortable asking for help and guidance when needed.
  • Highly motivated, great self-starter, able to work remotely with limited supervision at times.
  • Interest or background in Environmental Education.
