This is an exciting role born from a partnership between the Tech Council of Australia (TCA) and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade). The TradeStart Adviser will play a pivotal role in driving the international success of Australia’s innovative technology businesses, with a focus on subsectors like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, advanced ICT, and autonomous technologies.
The TradeStart Adviser will provide tailored support to help Australia’s best technology companies to export. As a trusted advisor, you will help businesses unlock global opportunities, expand into international markets, and strengthen Australia’s global technology profile.
This role highlights the commitment of TCA and Austrade to collaborate to bolster the Australian tech ecosystem. Key Outcomes You’ll Deliver
- Work independently to identify and work with a portfolio of high export potential technology businesses, to provide strategic advice and develop action plans to achieve their export potential by entering or expanding into a new market.
- Support the development and delivery of international programs (such as trade missions), that help technology clients to understand and access international markets.
- Develop and maintain quality connections with Australia's technology industry stakeholders and understand the nature of the ecosystem.
- Support the TCA membership offering, by supporting existing members to export, and facilitating membership leads to TCA.
- Collaborate with TCA members and the TCA policy team to identify barriers to international expansion.
- Enhance collaboration between Austrade, TCA, Commonwealth, State and Territory governments and other organisations (including international trade organisations and government agencies) to provide integrated services to exporters.
- Use shared data and intelligence to drive strategy and alignment between TCA and key trade partners both onshore and offshore where appropriate.
- Represent TCA and Austrade in a variety of settings, including presenting at industry events, and participating in meetings with governments, trade organisations, universities and businesses.
- Use TCA and Austrade CRM and other digital systems to track and support client engagement
- Prepare and share knowledge and analysis for board reports and TCA, Austrade and external stakeholder briefing materials.
- Ownership of achieving and reporting (including to Austrade) on outcomes, including the number of high-potential clients actively supported, export readiness uplift, and successful market entries achieved.
- Work collaboratively with other Trade Start advisors and Austrade trade advisors including undertaking training from Austrade, participating in working groups and implementing Austrade strategies and policies.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Deep connections into Australia’s tech ecosystem, including an ability to identify high export potential firms.
- Deep experience in supporting high export potential technology firms with meaningful growth strategies that support exporting.
- An understanding of exporting from Australia, whether through direct experience in a business or through advice and consulting.
- An ability to manage a large and diverse portfolio of clients, developing and maintaining relationships, locally and internationally.
- Experience working with or in Government.
- Experience using CRMs to record and analyse data to enhance client service delivery.
- Australian citizenship – our successful candidate must be an Australian citizen.
- Security clearance – our successful candidate is required to hold, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a Baseline security clearance.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong organisation and administrative skills including attention to detail.
- Outstanding people skills, with an ability to relate to others at all levels.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and energised by a fast-moving, founder-facing environment.
- A collaborative team player who genuinely gets excited about helping founders win internationally.
Remuneration and Conditions of Employment
- Reports to Head of Industry Programs
- Total remuneration: $140,000 – $160,000 (+ super) depending on experience.
- You will also be entitled to:
- (i) mobile phone reimbursement of up to $70 per month.
- (ii) salary packaging benefit, with the ability to utilise up to $15,900 of living expenses and $2,700 in meal allowance.
- Position is an initial 2-year contract role, with a 6-month probation period
- This role is expected to require domestic and international travel.
- Flexible work from home arrangements are available, but at least 3 days per week must be in the office
