Traffic Regulation Order Officer Jobs in Essex, UK at Matchtech
Southend-on-Sea City Council is looking for a skilled and motivated Traffic Regulation Order Officer to join our dynamic Traffic Management and Parking team. This is a full‑time, permanent role with hybrid working arrangements, providing a great work‑life balance.
In this key position, you will play a vital role in the successful delivery of traffic management, highway, and parking schemes by offering expert technical knowledge and ensuring compliance with national legislation and local governance practices. Your work will help optimise road closures, ensure a compliant TRO process, and keep stakeholders informed.
You will ensure all traffic orders are processed effectively, follow the Council’s governance procedures, and advise senior managers on risks, issues, or solutions as they arise. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to deliver roadworks and traffic management schemes to the highest standards, with a focus on safety and compliance. Additionally, you will manage invoicing and payment processes related to traffic regulation orders, ensuring records are maintained accurately.
You will undertake other duties as may reasonably be required, consistent with the role and level of responsibility of this post.
This post is predominantly remote, but there is an expectation to attend the office when required, depending on the needs of the business. Flexible working is expected, and occasionally working outside normal office hours will be required as directed by the line manager.
What you’ll need to succeed
To excel in this role, you’ll need a solid understanding of the Traffic Signs Regulations & General Directions 2016 and the Traffic Management Act 2004. Experience with Traffic Regulation Order processes is a must, and you should be comfortable navigating the legal, regulatory, policy, and procedural standards that govern this field.
You should be prepared to offer expert technical advice and guidance to colleagues, contractors, and external partners, ensuring the smooth coordination of traffic schemes across the City. Working closely with other teams to support public consultation exercises for larger parking and transport projects will also be part of your remit.
While experience with the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and the Local Authorities’ Traffic Orders (Procedure) (England and Wales) Regulations 1996 would be advantageous, it is not essential for the right candidate.
Applicants must hold a full driving licence.
You need to be degree‑qualified, or have equivalent significant vocational experience in highways, traffic or parking.
