Your new company
This organisation is a growing specialist subcontractor within the construction sector with an established presence interstate and expansion into the Canberra market. They are currently delivering a major construction project in partnership with a Tier 1 builder and require a dedicated WHS Officer to support site operations.
Your new role
This is a 12-15 month fixed term role, based on site in Canberra, with full-time hours and potential Saturday work depending on project demands.
As the on-site OHS Officer, you will be responsible for providing specialist WHS advice and ensuring operations align with project requirements and WHS legislation. Reporting to an interstate WHS Manager, you will take ownership of site safety for a workforce of up to 20 personnel.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting daily site inspections, audits and safety walkarounds
- Delivering toolbox talks, pre-starts and safety briefings
- Ensuring compliance with WHS legislation and Tier 1 contractor requirements
- Managing safety documentation, SWMS, incident reports and registers
- Monitoring licences, inductions and training compliance
- Investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions
- Acting as the key safety representative between site and head office
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a WHS professional with at least 3 years of experience in construction or high-risk operations. You must be able to work independently, reporting to an interstate manager, and take an informed, pragmatic approach to safety.
- Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience in construction or infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of WHS compliance on large-scale or government projects
- Ability to work independently and confidently on site
- White Card (essential)
- Asbestos and silica awareness certifications (or willingness to obtain)
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
