Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Supervising Workers’ Compensation Consultant, the Workers’ Compensation Consultant (WCC) performs tasks related to Independent Medical Review (IMR) and Independent Bill Review (IBR) of applications received that include vital component of the review process from communicating with all parties involved using the case management system; responding to written and verbal inquiries received that require thorough knowledge of various laws and statutes; and tracking information in an independent capacity and/or in consultation with appropriate authorities that will result in the timely resolution of claims thereby meeting the Department’s needs in the most cost effective manner.

Working Conditions

This position is located at: 1515 Clay St, Oakland, CA 94612.

The incumbent will work 40 hours per week in an office setting equipped with standard office equipment. Air conditioned, in a high-rise building with elevator access, cubicle with natural and artificial lighting. Telework may be available consistent with Department policy.

Once formal training has concluded, part-time telework may be offered upon approval by the Medical Unit Manager and consistent with the Department of Industrial Relations Telework Policy.

Department Information

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. Its mission is to improve working conditions for California’s wage earners and to advance opportunities for profitable employment in California. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers. DIR also publishes materials and holds workshops and seminars to promote healthy employment relations, conducts research to improve its programs, and coordinates with other agencies to target egregious violators of labor laws and tax laws in the underground economy.
