Title:

Youth Counselor Technician (S) – Position Number:  â€“ Grade: NC04. The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is committed to the reduction and prevention of juvenile delinquency by effectively intervening, educating and treating youth in order to strengthen families and increase public safety.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation and supervision for juveniles to and from required destinations such as court hearings, detention centers, youth development centers, residential placement, medical appointments, and other authorized locations.
  • Monitor youth while in secure custody during court as requested and provide non-secure transportation when not in secure custody.
  • Inspect vehicles regularly and maintain preventive service and inspection schedules for the vehicle fleet.
  • Maintain transportation documents for all trips.
  • Monitor fuel, oil, and tire conditions daily.
  • Conduct vehicle searches for contraband before and after each trip.
  • Ensure safe operation of vehicles and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Respond to emergencies and assist in the safe transport of juveniles as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution, or high school diploma/GED with a minimum of two years of related human services experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license on day of hire. Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, psychological test, sexual risk screening, and a physical exam that includes vision and hearing.
  • U.S. citizenship and at least 20 years of age.
  • Physical capability to restrain juveniles and defend oneself after proper training.
  • Completion of the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification program (four weeks of classroom and physical training) and possession of a valid Juvenile Justice Officer certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in speaking and writing.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $31,200 – $54,397 per year (DOE). Step Pay Plan:

  • Step 0 – $37,621
  • Step 1 – $40,253
  • Step 2 – $42,670
  • Step 3 – $44,803
  • Step 4 – $46,594
  • Step 5 – $47,993
  • Step 6 – $48,953

Sign‑On Bonus: $3,000 (subject to eligibility criteria).

Employee Referral Bonus may also apply.

Full‑time position (40 hours per week). Work schedule may include weekends, holidays, and a rotating variable schedule. Paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, retirement, and health insurance are part of the State benefits package.
