The Office of Innovation & Enterprise (OIE) drives the transformation of ideas and translation of SUTD technologies into solutions that create significant societal impact and economic growth. We do this by developing strategic partnerships with industry, with a specific focus on the Aviation/Connectivity, Healthcare, AI/Data Science and Cities/Urban Solutions sectors. We are now looking for an individual to lead the development of a new horizontal, Robotics (or Physical AI), which is a key technology in supporting the advancement of the sectors mentioned.
About the Role
The Asst Director (Robotics) will support the development and growth of the Robotics cluster at SUTD. The successful candidate will work closely with SUTD faculty and researchers in aggregating the capabilities into a strategic whole and driving the education and research agenda for the cluster. The candidate is expected to work closely with government agencies, industry/companies and SUTD faculty in identifying opportunities for collaboration, create programmes/platforms to drive impactful outcomes, and to support the entire collaboration process.
The role reports directly to the Senior Director, OIE, and works closely with Dy President / Chief I&E Officer and the rest of the university leadership.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with the key stakeholders in the Singapore robotics ecosystem (NRF, NRP, agencies, robotics companies, end-users, etc);
- Identify, seed, develop and promote project funding and collaboration opportunities, including shaping, developing and securing funding for large programmes;
- Lead and drive ecosystem development by building strong networks with partners and industry that can support the collaborations;
- Work closely with SUTD faculty and researchers on all matters pertaining to collaboration projects, including but not limited to agreement and contract negotiations;
- Manage and monitor projects and budget; and
- Provide administrative and secretariat support where appropriate.
Who We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
- At least ten years in one of more of these roles, with some experience in leadership positions: business development, account management, programme/project management, research management
- A good knowledge of the robotics industry, both in Singapore and globally
- Strong understanding of research agreements and contracts; some knowledge of intellectual property management will be useful
- Excellent writing and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with university leadership, faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders.
- Able to work independently and in teams
