1. ROLE PURPOSE
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the highest-ranking executive responsible for leading the overall business performance, profitability, growth, and strategic direction of the organization. The CEO provides leadership across all corporate functions, including Sales & Marketing, Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Legal, Information Technology, and Corporate Affairs, while overseeing plant performance through the Chief Operating Officer (COO). The role is accountable for achieving revenue growth, operational excellence, market leadership, stakeholder confidence, and long-term business sustainability by translating the Chairman's vision into actionable business strategies and measurable results.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Strategic Planning & Business Execution
•Develop, own, and execute the annual business plan and financial budget in alignment with the Chairman's strategic vision.
•Define Prime Steel's medium-to-long-term strategic roadmap across product lines, geographies, and market segments.
•Monitor macro-economic and industry-specific trends (steel demand cycles, raw material pricing, infrastructure spending) to adapt strategy proactively.
•Set organizational performance targets and cascade KPIs across all business units and functions.
B. Corporate Function Oversight
•Provide direct leadership to all corporate functions: Sales & Marketing, Finance & Accounts, Procurement & Supply Chain, Human Resources, Legal & Compliance, and Information Technology.
•Ensure each functional head operates with clear goals, adequate resources, and strong accountability mechanisms.
•Drive cross-functional collaboration to eliminate silos and enhance operational efficiency.
C. Operations & COO Supervision
•Supervise the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and maintain ultimate accountability for plant output, production targets, and manufacturing cost benchmarks.
•Ensure alignment between commercial demand signals and plant production scheduling.
•Review and approve capital expenditure plans for plant upgrades, capacity expansion, and maintenance.
D. Sales Strategy & Revenue Growth
•Drive the company's overall sales strategy for both long products (TMT bars, structural steel, wire rods) and flat products (HR/CR coils, plates, sheets).
•Build and maintain key customer relationships — including large infrastructure contractors, EPC companies, OEMs, and traders.
•Identify and pursue new market opportunities, including export markets, institutional buyers, and government procurement channels.
•Oversee pricing strategy, commercial terms, and credit management policies.
E. Financial Oversight & P&L Management
•Hold full ownership of the company's Profit & Loss statement.
•Monitor financial performance including revenue, EBITDA, working capital, and cash flows on a regular basis.
•Engage with lenders, financial institutions, and auditors; ensure healthy credit ratings and banking relationships.
•Ensure robust financial controls, audit readiness, and compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
F. Procurement & Supply Chain
•Oversee the strategic procurement of key raw materials including iron ore, scrap, coking coal, and other inputs.
•Ensure supply chain resilience through vendor diversification, long-term contracts, and hedging strategies.
•Drive cost reduction initiatives across the procurement and logistics functions.
G. Regulatory Compliance & Corporate Governance
•Ensure Prime Steel is fully compliant with all applicable laws and regulations across all jurisdictions of operation — including environmental, industrial, labour, and statutory requirements.
•Maintain high standards of corporate governance, ethical conduct, and transparency.
•Manage relationships with government authorities, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
H. Board Reporting & Stakeholder Communication
•Prepare and present comprehensive business performance reports, strategic updates, and financial summaries to the Board of Directors and the Chairman/MD.
•Communicate clearly with all key stakeholders — including promoters, investors, bankers, and senior customers.
•Represent Prime Steel at industry forums, trade events, and external engagements.
I. Organizational Development & Talent Strategy
•Lead organizational design efforts to ensure the right structure, roles, and capabilities are in place for business growth.
•Build and retain a high-performing leadership team by identifying, developing, and succession-planning for key positions.
•Champion a culture of performance, accountability, innovation, and employee engagement across Prime Steel.
•Drive HR initiatives related to talent acquisition, learning & development, compensation benchmarking, and employee welfare.
3. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Educational Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in engineering (B.E. / B.Tech) — preferably in Metallurgy, Mechanical, Electrical, or related disciplines.
•MBA or equivalent postgraduate management qualification from a reputed institution — mandatory.
•Additional certifications in leadership, general management, or executive programmes (IIM, ISB, London Business School, etc.) will be considered an advantage.
Industry Experience
•Minimum 20 years of total experience in the steel industry or heavy manufacturing sector.
•At least 7 years of experience in a senior leadership role — CEO, President, Vice President, Business Head, or equivalent — at an integrated steel company.
•Proven experience managing organizations with significant annual revenues and large employee headcounts.
•Prior exposure to both long products and flat products segments is strongly preferred.
Technical & Functional Knowledge
•Strong working knowledge of steel manufacturing processes — from raw material sourcing through to finished product dispatch.
•Deep understanding of P&L management, financial controls, and capital allocation in capital-intensive businesses.
•Comprehensive knowledge of sales & marketing in the B2B steel sector, including key customer segments, pricing, and trade channels.
•Familiarity with corporate governance frameworks, legal compliance, and board management practices.
•Awareness of emerging technologies relevant to the steel sector — including energy efficiency, digitization, and process automation.
