Role Summary

The Market Surveillance Specialist is responsible for maintaining market integrity by monitoring trading activities to detect and prevent market abuse, manipulation, and insider trading. The role involves analyzing complex data sets, investigating suspicious patterns, and ensuring full compliance with capital market laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trade Monitoring: Conduct real-time and post-trade surveillance of financial markets to identify irregular trading patterns or potential breaches of conduct.
  • Alert Investigation: Review and analyze automated alerts generated by surveillance systems (e.g., SMARTS, Actimize) to determine if further escalation is required.
  • Market Analysis: Perform deep-dive analysis into market trends, price movements, and news announcements to correlate them with trading behavior.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Prepare detailed investigation reports and case files regarding suspicious activities for the Enforcement and Legal departments.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all market participants (brokers, traders, and firms) adhere to the Implementing Regulations of the Capital Market Law.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with internal compliance teams and external regulatory bodies (such as CMA or Tadawul) to support ongoing investigations.

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Data Science, or Law.
  • Financial Literacy: Strong understanding of financial instruments (Equities, Derivatives, Fixed Income) and market microstructure.
  • Analytical Proficiency: Experience with data visualization and analysis tools (Advanced Excel is a must; SQL, Python, or Tableau is a significant plus).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with Global and Local market abuse regimes (e.g., MAR/MiFID II or CMA Regulations).
  • Professional Experience: Mid-Level (3–8 years)
