Role Description The Peace Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Windhoek, responsible for maintaining public order, safety, and compliance with applicable laws and municipal by-laws. Daily tasks include patrolling assigned areas, monitoring public spaces, and responding to incidents, complaints, and emergencies in a timely and professional manner. The role involves enforcing laws and regulations, issuing warnings or citations where appropriate, and assisting with crowd control during events or high-traffic periods. The Peace Officer will document incidents, collect and safeguard evidence, prepare accurate reports, and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and municipal departments as needed. The position also includes engaging with community members, providing information and guidance, and helping to promote trust and cooperation between the City and residents.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Law and Law Enforcement, including knowledge of relevant statutes, municipal by-laws, and enforcement procedures.
- Experience or training in handling Evidence, including proper collection, documentation, and preservation practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to Public Safety and effective Patrol skills, including situational awareness and proactive crime prevention.
- Sound judgment, integrity, and the ability to make decisions under pressure while remaining calm and professional.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully with diverse community members.
- Physical fitness sufficient to perform patrol duties, respond to emergencies, and manage potentially challenging environments.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as operational needs require.
- Relevant certification or formal training in policing, public safety, or security services; additional courses in conflict resolution or community policing are an advantage.
