Position

Out-of-State Lateral Police Officer – The Allen Police Department is seeking a qualified candidate to protect and serve the City of Allen. The role involves patrolling city property, enforcing traffic laws, investigating crimes, maintaining positive community relations, and interfacing with other city employees and residents. This position does not provide supervisory responsibilities to other employees.

Essential Job Functions

  • Patrol the city on foot, bicycle, or automobile, deterring crime and responding to incidents.
  • Enforce traffic laws and conduct traffic stops, including vehicle searches when probable cause exists.
  • Respond to motor vehicle accidents, clear the roadway, interview involved parties, and file incident reports.
  • Investigate crimes by interviewing witnesses, suspects, and victims, gathering evidence, and filing charges through the District Attorney’s office.
  • Maintain positive community relations by answering citizen questions and providing civic services.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 30 college credit hours with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and two continuous years of full‑time law‑enforcement service with arrest powers, or a high‑school diploma/GED plus three continuous years of full‑time law‑enforcement service.
  • Must have completed a successful Field Training Program and been assigned to patrol duties.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a Texas driver’s license prior to employment.
  • Eligible for certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) and meet the Out‑of‑State Peace Officer requirements.
  • Healthy vision and hearing required; meet all medical fitness testing standards.
  • Must be able to work shift work, holidays, and weekends.

Certification and Other Requirements

  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license required.
  • Eligible for TCOLE certification and must meet all Texas law‑enforcement standards.
  • Must successfully complete the department’s entrance examination, physical assessment, background investigation, polygraph and psychological examinations.
