The purpose and mission of the Indianapolis Fire Department is to provide emergency and fire protection services for the City of Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Firefighters are also trained as paramedics, emergency medical technicians, extrication specialists, top water and rescue divers, confined space, trench rescue and as hazardous materials technicians to help save lives, protect property, and the environment. Job Summary

Position responsible for managing and facilitating the progress and results of multiple projects of low to medium complexity by assuming compliance with the Bureau’s goals, budget, schedule, and quality expectations. This position is responsible for providing project management support to the Fire Investigation Unit, Public Education, Planning (Accreditation & ISO) and Inspections (Community Risk Reduction) working in close coordination in a positive and professional manner with individuals from all divisions and levels of the fire department, the general public, and the professional community.

This position will function as part of a team with the Office of the Fire Marshal and all IFD. The candidate should be capable to build and maintain relationships with city officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders to effectively promote fire life and safety initiatives.

Position Responsibilities

* Manages and implements projects across various divisions within the Bureau of the Fire Marshal ensuring timely completion and adherence to budgetary constraints.

* Identifies costs and benefits of individual projects and initiatives, including pay-back times, environmental benefits, life-cycle costs etc. Acts as project manager or assist other departments’ project managers as appropriate.

* Prepares reports and written KPI analyses for review by Agency, City departments and outside consultants. Tracks and reports progress toward program goals.

* Track outcomes, data, outputs and budget expenditures and ensure the project is attaining goals and objectives within the projected timeline for project completion, making adjustments with required entities as necessary.

* Develop, maintain and deliver ongoing programs to educate various target audiences in fire prevention, injury prevention, and life safety. Utilize data to inform decisions.

* Evaluate and report out on the bureau’s impact on community safety and well-being, using data-driven insights to support strategic initiatives.

* Conduct all tasks related to the reporting on property inspections data for the Division and related areas throughout the IFD. May include meeting with various divisions throughout the IFD.

* Monitoring, evaluating and coordinating services provided by outside consultant(s) and programs conduct with all divisions within the Bureau.

* Develop comprehensive tracking systems for project status, inspection results, civic events, and arson statistics. Utilize data to inform decisions and improve safety measures.

* Help develop and update electronic inspection database; as well as maintain current database of visitor attendance and other records.

* Participate in Survive Alive and Fire, Life Safety Division special events, community events, smoke detector distribution, etc.

* Works to balance competing priorities to ensure program goals and objectives are met and city and department requirements are followed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of project management experience preferred, with at least two years in a leadership role overseeing cross-functional teams. Excellent speaking, writing and listening skills is crucial. Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The individual must demonstrate the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and set priorities. Must be able to establish and set priorities according to time sensitive information to have continued success in this position.

Ability to coordinate multiple projects and meet various deadlines is a must. Knowledge of:
