The Role:
This is a senior, highly visible leadership role with overall responsibility for advancing Coquí Power's strategic objectives, reputation, and stakeholder relationships throughout Puerto Rico. The level of seniority and autonomy associated with this role will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience. Reporting to executive leadership, this individual will serve as the principal representative of Coquí Power before government officials, regulators, industry partners, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
In addition to providing local leadership, this executive will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive external affairs strategy that strengthens the Company's reputation, builds trust, and fosters productive relationships across government, media, industry, and the communities in which Coquí Power operates. The role requires the ability to effectively communicate complex energy, infrastructure, and financing matters to diverse audiences while representing the Company's interests with professionalism, credibility, and integrity.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished leader with a strong understanding of the energy sector, exceptional executive presence, and demonstrated experience managing high-profile stakeholder relationships. They will possess outstanding communication, government relations, and strategic engagement skills, with the judgment and credibility to represent Coquí Power effectively in both collaborative and challenging environments, including during periods of heightened public scrutiny or complex policy discussions.
Key Responsibilities:
· Provide executive leadership for Coquí Power's reputation, public profile, and strategic positioning throughout Puerto Rico, proactively shaping how the Company is perceived by government officials, industry stakeholders, the media, and the public.
· Serve as Coquí Power's principal spokesperson in Puerto Rico, representing the Company in media interviews, public forums, legislative and regulatory hearings, community meetings, and other high-profile engagements.
· Develop and execute the Company's public affairs, government relations, and stakeholder engagement strategy for the Puerto Rico market.
· Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key external stakeholders, including mayors, elected officials, government agencies, legislators, regulators, industry organizations, and their respective staff.
· Communicate complex energy, infrastructure, and project financing concepts in a clear, accurate, and accessible manner to policymakers, regulators, the media, community stakeholders, and the public.
· Monitor legislative, regulatory, political, and public policy developments, as well as public sentiment, and provide strategic guidance to executive leadership regarding the Company's positioning and response.
· Prepare and oversee the development of executive briefing materials, talking points, testimony, presentations, public statements, and other communications supporting government, media, and stakeholder engagement activities.
· Build and maintain productive relationships with community organizations, environmental groups, and other stakeholders, including those with differing perspectives, to foster trust, transparency, and constructive dialogue.
· Ensure consistency and alignment of the Company's messaging across all external communications and stakeholder engagement activities.
· Represent Coquí Power at industry conferences, government meetings, regulatory proceedings, community events, and other forums throughout Puerto Rico.
· Serve as the Company's senior representative in Puerto Rico, providing leadership on strategic initiatives and key business matters affecting Coquí Power's operations, reputation, and long-term success on the Island.
Qualifications:
· Proven success in public affairs, government relations, strategic communications, or stakeholder engagement, including experience serving as a senior public-facing spokesperson.
· Strong understanding of energy sector fundamentals, including the ability to speak credibly about energy markets, infrastructure development, project execution, and related financing concepts.
· Deep knowledge of Puerto Rico's energy market, regulatory framework, political environment, and governmental and civic landscape, supported by well-established relationships with key public and private sector stakeholders.
· Demonstrated credibility, integrity, and professionalism, with a proven ability to build and maintain the trust of government officials, regulators, industry leaders, media representatives, and community stakeholders across diverse perspectives.
· Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the executive presence and composure to represent the Company effectively in high-profile, complex, and often challenging public forums.
· Proven ability to translate complex technical, regulatory, and financial concepts into clear, accurate, and compelling communications for policymakers, the media, community stakeholders, and the general public.
· Fluency in both English and Spanish, with excellent written and verbal communication skills in each language.
· Based in Puerto Rico, with the ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the Island as business needs require.
· Demonstrated sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information with the utmost professionalism.
