Role Description
This is a remote, contract-based role for a Finance Specialist based in the Philippines, working closely with Envirotech's Australian management team and our registered BAS/Tax Agent partner. The Finance Specialist will deliver high-quality finance and accounting support by leveraging modern cloud accounting systems, automation tools, and AI-enabled workflows to drive efficiency and accuracy across Envirotech's finance operations.
The successful candidate will prepare and review financial statements, analyse financial data, produce management reports, support compliance with Australian financial regulations, and continuously improve finance processes through smart use of technology. The role involves assisting with accounting procedures, maintaining accurate records, and communicating financial insights to stakeholders for decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in Xero
- Prepare BAS, IAS, PAYG, and STP Phase 2 reports for review and lodgement by Envirotech's registered BAS/Tax Agent
- Produce management reports, financial analysis, and dashboards for decision-making
- Support grant funding acquittal reporting (MERIT, MERSEA, and other funded projects)
- Maintain accurate and well-organised financial records in line with Australian accounting standards
- Leverage AI tools, automation platforms, and Xero integrations to streamline reporting, reconciliation, data extraction, and workflow efficiency
- Document finance processes and recommend continuous improvements, including identifying automation and AI-enabled opportunities
- Communicate financial insights clearly and professionally to internal stakeholders
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field
- Philippines Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional accounting certification (CA, ACCA, CMA)
- Minimum 5 years of professional finance or accounting experience
- Hands-on experience with Xero for Australian businesses — GST, BAS preparation, Australian Chart of Accounts
- Strong understanding of financial regulations and preparation of financial statements
- Advanced analytical skills for data interpretation and financial insights
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for stakeholder liaison
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial reporting
- Availability during Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) business hours (approximately 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM Manila time)
- Dedicated home workspace, reliable high-speed internet (minimum 25 Mbps), backup power (UPS/generator), and a secure computer suitable for handling confidential financial data
Highly Desirable — Technology and AI Capability
Envirotech operates a cloud-first, AI-augmented finance function. The ideal candidate will bring the following technology and AI capabilities:
- Advanced Microsoft Excel — pivot tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, macros, and financial modelling
- Practical experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, or similar) to improve productivity in finance, reporting, data analysis, and documentation tasks
- Finance automation experience with platforms such as Hubdoc, Dext, Zapier, Power Automate, or Xero third-party integrations
- Cloud collaboration proficiency across Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Dropbox, Notion, or Asana
- Basic technical troubleshooting — ability to independently resolve common IT, software, and cloud-access issues in a remote environment
- A mindset of continuous improvement through technology — proactively identifying opportunities to automate repetitive work, reduce manual errors, and improve turnaround times
- Awareness of responsible AI use, including data privacy considerations when handling confidential financial information
Also Desirable
- Previous experience supporting Australian clients (outsourced accounting, BPO, or virtual assistant capacity)
- Experience in the Australian education, RTO, or not-for-profit sector
- Familiarity with Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and cross-border data handling obligations
- Experience with government grant acquittal reporting and milestone-based project finance tracking
- Additional professional certifications (e.g., CFA) are highly regarded
